The Curiosities Series is a series that begin in late 2016 when wanting to shift to sculpture after over a decade that largely focused on painting and drawing. The series was started with the goal to create a sculpture a day for a year. Studio limitations and life constraints had been the excuse for not doing sculpture, therefore the small daily work was a way to flip the situation to embrace the limitations. It seemed doable to consistently create over time that could then be arranged in larger installations. This practice encouraged a playful exploration that allowed a new discovery each day. Easily available materials like wire, wire mesh, and odd pieces of wood that could be covered in encaustic wax were the starting point but the expressive potential of this combination of media provides endless opportunities for new discoveries.
