These works were created to be displayed on the wall. The colors and shapes suggest plant forms, buds of flowers or caterpillars and butterflies. Some of the larger pieces in the series are directly inspired by botanical photographs by Jonathan M. Singer whereas others are more direct exploration of color and form as a means of suggesting something familiar without replicating specific species. The title of the series was also at a moment when folks in my region of the world were beginning to emerge from a year living largely in lockdown with the pandemic. The theme of emerging seemed like a fitting name to mark and acknowledge the moment. The 4×4 (smaller pieces) were create as a special collection for the NC Museum of Art Shop and are on display in the Museum shop during the Summer of 2021.
